HERA - Our Limited Release Chardonnay is here!

Here at Odyssey Wines we constantly work to create unique, award-winning wines that create an ever-lasting impression on the drinker. Our latest endeavor is the Hera Chardonnay.

This Limited edition Chardonnay is barrel selected for only the best tight-grained French Puncheons. The hand-picked grapes come from old, low yielding and dry-farmed Mendoza Chardonnay vines in Gisborne, New Zealand.

We oak this gorgeous Chardonnay in 50% new French oak 500 litre puncheons, using only wild yeast, before leaving it for a full indigenous malolatic fermentation.

The connection to Hera lies in its power. Hera is the Queen of Olympian Gods. She is the protector of women, Goddess of marriage and birth and referred to as ‘The Queen of Heaven’. Our Hera Chardonnay is, like her namesake, a powerful wine, sweet fruited and textural.

Already in its youth, this wine hits sublime notes and is very appealing to drink now. However, age will continue to evolve the complexities and characters in this bottle, so we recommend keeping a bottle in the cellar for many years, until at least 2021.  

Odyssey Wines Hera Chardonnay is tightly structured, with concentrated grapefruit and peach flavours, impressive complexity and a lasting finish. It has already been given five stars by Michael Cooper – “a stylish wine, full of potential”.
